Follow these simple steps for healthier skin… Do you
suffer from:

|
Acne: In order to understand
why acne happens, we have to begin at the source: the
oil glands. These glands produce the oil that may cause
skin to breakout. The excess oil clogs the follicle
and creates pimples. In response to the large
amount of oil, the pore closes with the debris inside.
This is commonly called a whitehead. A pore that doesn't
close, but has debris that is in contact with the air
is called a blackhead. Pores that become infected are
called pustules.

Dark Spots: Two things could
have occurred to cause a dark spot or darker area.
The first may be a lot of dry, dull, dark dead skin
cells piled up on that area. The second can be that
your skin is reacting to some sort of insult, injury
or disease. Ethnic skin normally heals with a darkening
of the skin resulting in dark spots. Acne, shaving
bumps, and mosquito bites commonly leave dark spots,
also. |

Skin Discoloration: This
is a common problem that affects darker skin tones.
Obvious discoloration is probably the most devastating
cosmetic condition for ethnic skin. Discolorations
are white splotches or darker area that leads to
uneven skin tone; results form skin irritation, hormonal
changes and skin conditions. |

Shaving Bumps (beard & bikini): For
many ethnic men, a condition called pseudofolliculitis
barbae (PFB) can be hard to deal with. It's when
you get ingrown hairs after shaving. As a solution,
some men just grow out their beards. PFB is a "splinter" reaction
in the skin. This condition is caused because ethnic
men's beards are course and usually grow curly. When
shaved, instead of growing straight out of the follicle,
the curly hair begins to coil and grow into neighboring
skin. The skin reacts to the invading hair by becoming
irritated and bumpy which results in discoloration.
These razor bumps may be the result of using the
wrong shaving technique or they may just be genetic.
For women, the areas that may be affected by PFB
are the bikini line, armpits and legs. |

Bumps on the back of the neck: We
all want to look good and that cool hair style with
the close shave and fade at the back of the neck
would really look nice, right? Not if it causes acne
keloidalis - infections at the back of the neck around
the hair follicles, which result in scarring, skin
thickening and hair loss. Skin irritation from shave
hair cuts, not dirty clippers are the main culprit
of this condition. A tight cap, certain products
or profuse brushing can start the condition. Acne
keloidalis hurts, itches and bleeds and it makes
skin uncomfortable and unattractive.
Acne keloidalis doesn't happen overnight. It is
the result of constant irritation, scratching or
rubbing and the first sign is tiny acne-like lesions.
Not all irritations will result in acne keloidalis.
To stop acne keloidalis from forming, the skin must
not be irritated any longer. Consider getting a gentler
haircut or stop using the irritating product. The
treatment depends on the stage of infection and scar
formation. |
